What is Structured Water?

Definition, Benefits, and More

We are all aware of the importance that water has on our lives, our health and environment we live in. There is no life without water. Sufficient hydration is paramount for our health and a lot of modern and chronic diseases have its roots in inadequate water intake. Thinking of water on a broader scale it is clear that it is also a crucial part of industry and agriculture.

It is now clear that potable water is becoming scarce and studies show that by 2025 half of the world's population will have limited access to water. What we should also be conscious about is the quality of the water we drink. In many areas potable water is polluted with pesticides, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals and other pollutants. When in doubt about your water's quality it is recommended to install a filtering device that will cleanse your water of chemical, biological and physical pollutants. This is a very efficient way of treating the chemical (molecular) structure of water. However, water is believed to have a vibrational structure as well. Many researchers are promoting the idea that there is more to this mysterious liquid than its molecular structure H2O. The term most commonly used to describe this state of water is structured water.

Spring water and glacier water have a perfect vibrational structure

What is it: Structured water, EZ water, Hexagonal water, Energized water or Magnetized water?

The term structured water is used to describe a unique arrangement of water molecules into water clusters that are supposed to be smaller and arranged in a certain form, which gives structured water unique properties like increased solubility, better hydration potential and lower genotoxicity. There are also other terms that are associated with altered vibrational structure of water: EZ Water, Hexagonal water, Energized water and Magnetized water.

EZ Water

EZ water is short for exclusion zone water, a term that was introduced by Dr. Gerald Pollack, a professor of Bioengineering at the University of Washington. Dr. Pollack is a leading authority in the field of water structuring and he organizes an annual Water conference where he hosts lectures of his peer scientists and researchers of water. He found out that the structure of water that surrounds hydrophilic surfaces is different from bulk water. This is believed to be the Fourth Phase of Water which is also the tittle of Dr. Pollack's book where he explores and explains the unique properties of EZ water such as negative charge, ability to exclude solutes and high density.

Hexagonal water

This is another term used the describe a unique arrangement of water in a hexagonal shape. Dr. Masaru Emoto who is the pioneer of water crystal photography found out that water with enhanced vibrational structure forms a beautiful snowflake like water crystals. It is believed that hexagonal water has special properties like better absorption of nutrients and that body cells hydrate more efficiently.

Energized water

Energized or sometimes also called revitalized water is a term that is describing water which energetic level has been enhanced with a certain method of revitalization. These methods include sound frequencies, exposure to light (sunlight or light of a particular color) and adding gemstones and

minerals that correspond to a certain frequency. Energized water is a term used to describe structured water that is believed to leverage individual’s body energy level and overall health and performance.

Magnetized water

Magnetized water is a type of structured water that has been exposed to a magnetic field. Due to this exposure the water molecules align in a specific way into a more organized form. Magnetized water is used in agriculture for better crop yield, construction, where the concrete made with magnetized water is supposed to be harder and more durable and industry to reduce lime scale build up in pipes and improve the quality of waste water.

The above terms are used to describe water that has been treated in a specific way in order to alter its structure with the purpose of benefiting human health, agriculture (plants and animals) or industry processes (construction, waste water, lime scale build up).

Structured water

At Flaska we use this term as we feel that it describes in the best possible way the changes that happen with water in our bottles and other glass products.

What are the benefits of structured water?

Structured water is a concept that is a matter of heated debate in the scientific community. However, there are evidence that suggest there are benefits of structured water such as:

  1. Due to the specific form of water molecule clusters, the water is supposed to penetrate body cells more easily thus improving hydration. The most common remarque we receive from our customers is that they drink more water since they are using the Flaska bottle.
  2. A lot of people report that by drinking structured water their general energy level and wellbeing increased
  3. Structured water is supposed to have a lower genotoxicity level which means that the potential toxins in water have lower damaging effect on body cells. We performed an Allium test, that shows that the genotoxicity of water from Flaska is lower by 40%. Furthermore, the Microtoxo test showed that the water from Flaska bottle inhibits the development of pathogenic bacteria such as E-colli. You can have a look at all Flaska tests and measurments here.
  4. It is also believed that the structured water contributes to longevity and processes that are slowing down aging.
  5. Structured water is used in agriculture to increase yield and achieve better vitality of the plants and its root systems. Plants watered with structured water tend to need less pesticides and fertilizers. It is also been reported that general wellbeing of animals improved and mortality rate dropped. Flaska has its background in agriculture as before he founded Flaska, Maks was a strawberry grower. This is where he came in contact with structured water. He extensively tested the impact structured water had on the plants. Read more about it here. If you are interested in finding our more about the use of structured water in agriculture we invite you to read the research of Michael I Lindinger; Structured water: effects on animals
  6. In industry structured water might improve some processes such as purification and waste water treatment while reducing energy consumption. It is used in construction to improve the durability of concrete.
  7. It is suggested that structured water my help reduce levels on contaminants in aquatic ecosystems contributing to a healthier and cleaner marine environment

The impact and benefits of structured water are still being investigated and tested in practice.

What are the most common ways of water structuring?

It is believed that the water in its purest form such as water from a mountain spring and glacier water have the best possible vibrational structure. The natural structure is broken when water flows through pipes or is bottled for a long period of time. Here are the ways how water’s vibrational structure can be restored.

  1. Vortexing is water’s natural way of purification which has been noticed by Viktor Schauberger. By swirling or spinning the water its molecules reorganize is certain form. There are many devices that use this technique of water revitalization.
  2. Exposure to sunlight is one of the methods believed to restore water’s natural structure
  3. Putting crystals and gemstones into water. Crystals, minerals and gemstones vibrate with a certain frequency which is transferred onto the water.
  4. Magnetizing devices that expose water to a magnetic field that aligns water molecules in a more structured way.
  5. One of the most popular methods for personal use is glass to water information transfer. Glass can be imprinted with a certain vibration which is then transferred onto the water. Our Flaska glass water bottles are using this kind of water structuring method. Read more about Flaska products here.
