Unwanted substances such as pesticide residues, heavy metals, and chemicals can appear in drinking water. When testing drinking water, the values of individual unwanted substances are usually checked, which must not exceed specific threshold values. However, we do not know how combinations of all unwanted substances affect our organisms, although they are within allowable limits. In Scandinavia, the Allium test was developed for this purpose, which is performed with onion bulbs that grow in water over a certain period. This test analyzes gene damage on onion bulbs and assesses the genotoxicity of water. The test results showed that the genotoxicity of Flaska water was significantly reduced, from 20% to 11%. In addition, improved root growth of onion bulbs was observed.
